About Dr. Andrew Cheff

Dr. Cheff is a licensed psychologist in the State of Michigan. He has nearly 20 years of experience in mental health care, having worked in community mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, prison, courts, forensic, and private practice settings. His experience includes providing care with teams composed of a variety of mental health professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and trainees. He has provided services to people of all ages, genders, races/ethnicities, and backgrounds in both rural and urban areas. He has received clinical and consultative training and education in individual, marital/couples, family, group, organizational consulting, employment fitness, forensic assessment, and large group dynamics. Dr. Cheff practices from an integrated perspective rooted in family and systems, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral theories.

Dr. Cheff is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) , a member of the American Psychology-Law Society (APLS) Division 41 of the APA, and a member of the Michigan Psychological Asso iation (MPA). He is a Consulting Forensic Examiner for the State of Michigan and an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for The University of Michigan Medical School Department of Psychiatry, providing professional training to medical students, psychiatry residents.

Dr. Cheff has a strong interest in helping his clients to achieve the balance and peace each of us seek in our lives. He provides services from an integrative and holistic model of care. This model emphasizes the role of the individual, and his or her experience within the various and unique situations that impact us. He enjoys working with individuals, couples, families, and groups asking not only "Why?" but "Why not?"

From the first time you meet with Dr. Cheff, you will likely notice his calm and relaxed demeanor. He says, "I try to make the office a place where clients feel comfortable with me and the services provided. That looks different depending upon whether that service is therapy, consultation, or psychological assessment; who I have across from me; et cetera; but it's always my goal for my clients to feel comfortable being their real selves in my office."

When he is not providing mental health and consultation services, Dr. Cheff enjoys spending time with his wife, their three children, and their friends. In his free time he enjoys reading a good book with a cup of coffee, cooking, and engaging in outdoor activities throughout the beautiful state of Michigan. Dr. Cheff and his wife also give of their time in local youth and community groups dedicated to education, character-building, and practicing of good citizenship while having fun.
